#Durianium—Acquiring a plot for planting durian

After a long search for the proper plot that fit both our budget and was suitable for growing durian, we finally decided to buy this piece of neglected land. The property had been abandoned for over 20 years, untouched and unmaintained. It had been offered to many potential buyers, but no one was interested—likely because it’s a steep ravine with nearly a 45-degree slope, difficult to access and not ideal for farming. The soil was rocky and not very fertile either.

Yet, despite the challenging conditions, the land was up for sale. The owner urgently needed funds for personal reasons, and although we didn’t have a lot of money ourselves, we decided to go ahead with the purchase. With help from a relative, we arranged to pay for the land in installments over several years. Fortunately, its altitude and location were ideal, sitting over 800 meters above sea level—a good fit for durian cultivation. The area even had a history of high-quality durian trees, and the surrounding region is called "Geneng Durian", which translates to "Durian Hill."

After the purchase was finalized, we began the process of clearing and preparing the land. The previous owner hired a few workers to clear the site manually. With sickles, hoes, saws, and pickaxes, they cut down bamboo and cleared all the wild growth that had taken over for decades. It took a few days to get the land cleared and prepared before it was ready to be handed over to us.

#Durianium—Yarik suddenly sleep

Before we settled into the tropical paradise of our Durianium estate, our family lived in a small city in Russia. Life was different back then, with snowy streets and cold winter days, quite the opposite of the warm, sunny days we now enjoy. But some things never change – like the simple joys of being together as a family.

On one particular winter day, we bundled up in our thickest clothes and went out to a nearby convenience store. Our little boy, Yarik, was wide-eyed, taking in everything around him as we walked through the aisles. But before long, the combination of warm clothes and Papa’s gentle carrying arms made Yarik sleepy.

Soon enough, Yarik was fast asleep, his little head bobbing forward and backward as Papa held him. It was such a sweet sight, seeing him drift off in the middle of a crowded store, completely unaware of the bustling customers around him. Mama and Papa couldn’t help but chuckle, watching our adorable son try to fight off sleep but ultimately surrendering to it.

Moments like these make us cherish our family time even more, and it’s fun to remember the different chapters of our journey before we came to our beloved Durianium estate. What a lovely memory of our little Yarik, who could fall asleep just about anywhere!

#Durianium—Jupiter grape tree in the granny's home

As durian farmers, you might think our hearts are dedicated solely to the “King of Fruits.” While we certainly love durian, we also enjoy cultivating a variety of tropical fruits. Recently, we decided to try something new – growing a grape variety called Jupiter. We set up a planter bag, filled it with rich soil and fertilizer, and planted a young Jupiter grapevine. Then, we placed it at granny’s home, knowing she’d be delighted to care for it.

Granny was thrilled with her new gardening task and started watering the grapevine every day, tending to it with love and patience. Little by little, the vine began to thrive, sending out lush leaves and stretching toward the light. Thanks to her careful attention, the Jupiter grapevine has now grown beautifully, winding its way along the frame of the roof.

Seeing this vibrant grapevine flourish at granny’s place brings us so much joy and excitement. We’re eagerly looking forward to the day it bears its first juicy bunches. Hopefully, when harvest time arrives, we’ll be enjoying fresh, delicious grapes straight from our very own vine – a wonderful reward for granny’s dedicated care and love.
