The day we received a large package containing high-quality D24 durian saplings, also known as Durian Sultan, was filled with excitement. Yarik & Naya eagerly helped us unpack the precious plants, and soon, we were ready to transport them to our mountain garden, located 7 kilometers west of home at an altitude of approximately 1,000 meters above sea level.
However, the journey wasn’t as smooth as we had hoped. Our usual paved road was under repair, forcing us to take a narrow and steep dirt path with loose rocks, gravel, and sand. Halfway up, the incline became too much for our car, and the wheels spun helplessly in place. Realizing it was unsafe to push forward, we stopped and tried everything we could to free the car—but to no avail.
Just when the situation seemed dire, two kind villagers on a motorbike came by. After we explained our predicament, they offered to help, calling a friend to bring a pulley and steel cable. With teamwork and resourcefulness, they secured the cable to a sturdy tree and used the pulley to gradually maneuver our car to firmer ground.
While we waited, Naya enjoyed playing with the village children, and we turned the unexpected delay into an impromptu picnic. Sharing our packed food with the locals and soaking in the serene village atmosphere turned a stressful event into a heartwarming experience.
After the car was freed, we expressed our gratitude with heartfelt thanks and a small token of appreciation for the villagers’ effort. This adventure reminded us that even in challenging moments, happiness is always within reach if we remain open to it.
