At our durian orchard, a section of the earthen wall that separates Terrace One from Terrace Two had recently collapsed. The heavy rains from past seasons had gradually worn it down, until part of it gave way.
Today, Papa got to work fixing it. He reinforced the slope by filling the eroded area with fresh soil and planting mini elephant grass—what the locals call Odot grass. This grass has strong roots that help bind the soil and prevent future landslides, especially during the rainy season.
But this effort was about more than just protecting the slope. Just above the repair site stands one of our prized durian trees on Terrace One. If the soil keeps eroding, the tree might lose its footing—literally. By strengthening the wall, Papa ensures that the durian tree has enough land to grow strong and thrive.
It's small, quiet work. But it's the kind of work that makes all the difference when the rains come.
