#Durianium—Turning weeds into a feast—2

At Grandma’s house, we’ve planted a diverse array of fruit trees: various types of durians, pomelos, Dekopon oranges, kaffir and Key limes, red and New Crystal longans, grapes, mangoes, jackfruits, and avocados. With so many plants, weeds naturally thrive alongside them. But amidst the weeds, a pleasant surprise emerged—spinach!

Spinach of all varieties has grown quickly and abundantly around the durian trees, especially near the Namlung and Sultan (D24) varieties. The vibrant green leaves stand out as a testament to how fertile the garden has become.

Today, we spent the day tending the garden. Papa distributed organic fertilizer to the orange trees to ensure their healthy growth. Meanwhile, Naya helped Mama harvest spinach. The harvest was beyond expectation—so much fresh, lush spinach ready to cook!

As we worked together, we couldn’t help but appreciate how we’ve turned an underutilized space into a productive garden. Tonight’s dinner will be a feast of delicious and healthy spinach soup, a gift from the garden we lovingly care for.
