#Durianium—Buying durian seedlings and manure—1

We eagerly awaited the completion of our excavator’s work in uprooting tree remnants, leveling, and structuring the land into three terraces. Alongside the excavator’s help, we still had some manual clearing to do in areas beyond the terraces. While waiting for the land to be fully prepared, we ordered a wide variety of high-quality durian seedlings from Salaman, Magelang, a region renowned for its exceptional durian seeds. We chose Musang King, Bawor, Duri Hitam, Masmuar, Montong, D24, Kanyao, Namlung, Super Tembaga, Chanee, and more.

With help from our employees, we unloaded and arranged these seedlings, along with hundreds of bags of manure sourced locally. This careful setup ensures that as soon as the land work is finished, we can start planting immediately and nourish the trees to help them thrive.

Cultivating durian demands significant investment—not only in quality land and seedlings but also in fertilizers, vitamins, and attentive care. Starting from seeds would mean waiting 7-8 years for the first harvest, so we opted for grafted seedlings around two meters tall, which should bear fruit in 3-4 years. Mama Lena even bought a guidebook on durian cultivation in Indonesian. As a Russian, she has no experience with durian, but her upbringing on a family farm in a temperate climate gives her a foundation she can adapt to the tropics.

Caring for durian trees feels like raising children—without consistent love and attention, they won’t grow to their fullest potential. With this first step, we’re on our way to building a Durianium—Durian Imperium. May God bless our journey.
